Recommendations for the Canary Islands

Medications

Always take more than sufficient medications as paracetamol and diarrhea inhibitors etc with you when you visit the Canary Islands. Besides medication it is important to protect yourself against the sun. Especially around noon when the sun is at its strongest. We even recommend to avoid the sun around this time and to stay in the shade as much as possible.

Electricity

The voltage is 230V on the Canary Islands and they have 3 kinds of plugs.

  • Type C: The Type C electrical plug (or Europlug) is a two-wire plug that has two round pins.
  • Type E: The Type E electrical plug has two round pins and a hole for the socket’s grounding pin.
  • Type L: The Type L electrical plus has two round pins with a grounding pin in the middle.

Transportation

Besides renting a car it is also possible to travel by bus or taxi on the Canary Islands. The public transportation on the Canary Islands is well organized and they have a good bus network. Especially in the touristic areas it’s possible to reach most locations by bus. At these locations of the Canary Islands are also many cab stands where you can get a taxi. The cost of a taxi is relatively low.
