Sanur - Bali


Sanur is a coastal town Southeast of Denpasar and Kuta. In 1906 the Dutch invaded Bali on the beach of Sanur and the same happened again in WWII when the Japanese invaded Bali. Nowadays Sanur is a popular holiday location. The sea is calm and shallow which makes it ideal for children. Sanur has a rule which prohibits buildings to be taller than the palmtrees. Therefor you will not find tall hotels in Sanur except the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel.

Museum Le Mayeur

Museum Le Mayeur is a museum located in the former house of Adrien Jean Le Mayeur. Le Mayeur was born in Belgium and lived on Bali from 1932 until he died in 1958. When is wife, Ni Pollok, died in 1985 the house was transformed into Museum Le Mayeur. At the museum you can see a lot of paintings of Le Mayeur often with his wife as subject. Besides the painting you will also see utilities which Le Mayeur used.

Mangrove Information Center

Location : 4 miles from City Center - 10 minutes drive | Category : Nature

The Mangrove Information Center is located in a 2.3 sq mi forest. The center is mainly focused on educating the locals and interested on the importance of the mangroves. There are two paths which will lead you through the forest. During these walks you can enjoy the nature at its fullest.

Pura Blanjong

Pura Blanjong is especially known for the oldest Balinese artifact. In this temple you will find the so called Prasati Blanjong. The Prasatie Blanjong is a pillar with inscriptions which tell the story of a King from Java. This king came to Bali in the 10th century and formed the first known government on the island.


Sanur isn’t the best location on Bali for diving. However, you will find some diving schools where you can rent equipment and learn to dive. At these diving school it’s also possible to book excursions to the better and more popular dive spots.

Entertainment and Nightlife

In Sanur you can have a perfect meal on many locations. At the nightmarket it is possible to have traditional local dishes relatively cheap. But also less traditional restaurants, as western and Italian, can be found in Sanur. Offcourse you can also have diner at one of the many fish restaurants.

Most bars in Sanur are located at Jalan Danau Tamblingan. There are many different kind of bars where you can enjoy your drinks and even live music is provided at some bars. On and near the beach you will find bars where you can enjoy the sunset.

Sanur has a couple of spas where you can relax for a fair price. At these spas you can have different kind of treatments ranging from traditional Balinese to modern western treatments.

How to get there

Sanur can be reached in three ways:

Car / Taxi
From the airport near Denpasar, Ubud, Kuta, Legian and Seminyak the trip to Sanur will take around 15 to 20 minutes and a taxi will cost approximately Rp 100,000.

Sanur is easy to reach from touristic locations such as Denpasar, Ubud, Lovina and Kuta. Beside the standard bus operator Perama it is also possible to take a private VIP shuttle bus to Sanur. The costs of these busses vary and depend on the point of departure and chosen comfort class.

From Nusa Lembogan it is possible to reach Sanur by boat on a daily base. The crossing from this island to Sanur will cost you approximately Rp 250,000 and will take 30 minutes. The boat arrives at Sanur Beach. The exact location depends on the tide.


In Sanur you will mainly find accommodations in the categories Middle Class and Luxury. But if you put some effort to it you will also find some lowbudget stays

The lowbudget stays in Sanur are fine accommodations in general. They’re somewhat more luxurious than lowbudget stays in other cities. Some even have a swimmingpool. The costs of these lowbudget stays vary between Rp 200,000 to Rp 400,000 per night.

Middle Class
There’s no lack of middle class accommodations in Sanur. The hotels are often located on better locations than the lowbudget stays and offer more luxury and comfort. In general these kind of middle class accommodations have swimmingpools and restaurants on the premises. The price of middle class accommodations lies between Rp 250,000 and Rp 900,000 per night.

The luxurious resorts in Sanur are equipped with all luxury and comfort you can imagine. On the premises you will find all facilities and in some cases even private swimmingpools, gyms and kindergarten. The costs of these accommodations start at Rp 950,000 and can be expensive as Rp 5,000,000 per night.
