Lovina isn’t really a town but more a strip of small fishing villages merged to one town of which the center is called Lovina. Lovina is located 56 miles North of Denpasar. Lovina is mainly known for the beach with black sand and the calm and clear sea. Lovina is pretty touristic and there are many hotels, shops and bars. Beside the beach Lovina is known for the dolphin spotting excursions. Because the sea is calm and clear it is a perfect location for snorkeling and diving. The atmosphere in Lovina is quiet in comparison to for example Kuta and Nusa Dua.

Brahma Vihara Ashrama monastery

Brahma Vihara Ashrama is the biggest monastery on Bali nearby the village Dencarik. The surroundings of the monastery are very beautiful. On the premises are several stupas. From Lovina the Brahma Vihara Ashrama monastery is somewhat difficult to reach this is why the monastery isn’t crowded. The beautiful location, many sights on the premises and relatively few tourists make the Brahma Vihara Ashrama monastery ideal for a visit.

The Dolphin Statue is located on the road to the beach. This statue is a statement of why there are so many tourists in Lovina. The biggest part of tourists who visit Lovina go to see the dolphins. From this landmark you have a beautiful view on the sea.
Black Sand beach

The black sand beach of Lovina is an ideal place for a quiet walk through surroundings which you won’t find easy somewhere else. Besides that the beach is perfect for swimming because of calm and clear water. The best time to visit the Black beach of Lovina is during the low tide, during high tide the beach is very small and almost impassable.
West Bali National Park

The West Bali National Park is a nature park of 75 sq mi West of Lovina. The park consists of many kinds of landscapes as beach, mangroves and rainforest. At the park 160 kinds of bird species live from which some are threatened with extinction. Besides these many kinds of birds there live several mammal species as for example hogs and Leopard Cats. In 1937 this was the location where last living Bali Tiger was shot to death. You are only allowed to visit the West Bali National Park under the supervision of a guide. These guides cost around Rp 75,000 per half day.

Munduk is a small village in the mountains at Lake Tamblingan. At the beginning of the 20th century the Dutch used this village as a holiday resort. The houses which they used can still be seen today. Some of these houses are turned into guesthouses. There isn’t much to see in Munduk itself, but the surroundings are beautiful. For example you can visit the Red Coral Waterfall, Lake Tablingan and the rice fields.
Air terjun Singsing

Air Terjun Singsing is also known as Singsing Waterfall. This waterfall is located in a beautiful surrounding which makes the hike to the waterfall worthwhile. Even during the dry season this is still a relatively big waterfall. The water collects at a lake underneath the waterfall in which you can take a refreshing swim. The water from this lake flows into a river.
Banjar Hot Springs

The Banjar Hot Springs are also known as Air Panas. This isn’t a very crowded location because it is hard to reach. Out of stone fountains water flows into a pond. The water is high on sulfur and is experienced as restful and abstergent. The Banjar Hot Springs provide facilities to change outfits and store your properties safely.
Lovina is known for the dolphin excursions. From several locations in Lovina you can book excursions to go dolphin spotting. It can be very crowded at the dolphin spotting locations because many agencies offer these excursions. The price for the excursions is fixed at Rp 60,000 per person.
Lovina is very suitable for diving and snorkeling. From several divingcenters and hotels excursions are offered. The guides at the certified agencies are almost always multilingual.
It is possible to take cooking courses at several places in Lovina. At these cooking courses you will learn to prepare traditional Balinese dishes. In addition, they will teach you the intricacies of the Indonesian kitchen.
Entertainment and Nightlife
In Lovina are many different kinds of restaurants at which you can dine perfectly. The real recommendations are the fish dishes and traditional Balinese dishes. The prices in Lovina are average for Bali and therefor it is possible to have a good diner for a fair amount.
Lovina has a few places where you can go to the bar in the evening. Some of the bars have live music. The bars at the beach are ideal for watching the sunset while you enjoy your drink.
In Lovina are multiple spas. These spas are considerably cheaper than for example the spas in Kuta, Nusa Dua and Legian. The spas in Lovina offer good services and are equipped with all luxury to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Therefor these accommodations are ideal to fully relax.
How to get there
Lovina can be reached in three ways:
From almost every big city as for example Kuta, Denpasar and Candidasa busses depart to Lovina. The prices are fair and for example if you take the bus from Denpasar it is 55 mile trip which will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Car – Taxi
Lovina can easily be reached by car or taxi. From the airport near Denpasar a taxi to Lovina will take approximately 90 minutes. The price is pretty high and will be approximately Rp 450,000.
We don’t recommend you to take the Bemo from the airport to Lovina. These Bemos are uncomfortable and only ideal for short trips. If you have a lower budget and do not mind the longer and uncomfortable trip the Bemo is a good alternative.
Because Lovina is very touristic it goes without saying that there are more than enough accommodations where you can stay. You can find an accommodation for each budget.
For tourists with a low budget there are many accommodations in Lovina. Most of these accommodations only facilitate the basics needs without any luxury as for example airco, fridge or warm water. The prices for these accommodations in Lovina are between Rp 50,000 and Rp 150,000 per night.
The Middle Class hotels in Lovina are comfortable. The rooms have tv, airco and fully equipped bathrooms. Besides the comfortable rooms these hotels are often located at better spots and offer swimming pools, restaurants and bars. The prices for these accommodations in Lovina are between Rp 250,000 and Rp 1,300,000 per night.
